Logitech MX Keys S wireless keyboard best update 2024

Logitech MX Keys S'

The next model in Logitech MX Keys s family is the wireless keyboard, the Logitech MX Keys S. This keyboard features a low-profile design, similar to the previous generation of Logitech MX Keys. The keycaps have a spherical dish-shaped contour, which can assist keep your fingers focused and minimize accidental keystrokes. It has the same full white backlighting as its predecessor, which can turn on automatically when your hands are closed. However, it now has a new feature that changes the backlighting’s default setting to match the surrounding illumination. In addition, there is now an emoji key among the new collection of shortcuts on the function row. Additionally, Logitech has updated its software to provide additional features for managing the backlighting of the keyboard and building macros.
This keyboard connects wirelessly by Bluetooth or with the Logi BOLT receiver, in contrast to its predecessor, which connects wirelessly via Bluetooth or with the Logitech Unifying receiver. See the Wireless Versatility test below for further information.

A some of the Logitech MX Keys S’s most notable characteristics

Comparing the Logitech MX Keyboard To Other Keyboards

This keyboard is a fantastic desktop choice for regular browsing and productivity. It is pleasant to use without a wrist rest thanks to its compact design, superb typing quality, and outstanding wireless adaptability. Additionally, it is incredibly quiet—especially in contrast to mechanical keyboards.
The Logitech MX Keys S is the next model in the Logitech MX Keys series. This keyboard connects wirelessly using Bluetooth or the Logi BOLT USB receiver, which Logitech claims offers better security and wireless stability than a regular Bluetooth connection. This is in contrast to the original Logitech MX Keys, which connected via Bluetooth or with the Logitech Unifying USB Receiver. This updated model’s main hardware change is a new emoji key and a changed set of default shortcuts on the F-row at the top of the keyboard. Additionally, this keyboard boasts a revolutionary backlighting technology that modifies brightness based on ambient illumination. This version also includes additional software capabilities that allow for more control over the backlighting and support for the creation of macros—a feature that Logitech refers to as Smart Actions. It’s important to note, though, that Smart Actions are now compatible with Logitech MX Keys from the previous generation, so the new model isn’t the only one with this feature.

With the MX Keys S, what’s new?

It is nearly impossible to distinguish the MX Keys S from the original MX Keys physically. That’s alright: Its full-size layout and sturdy, no-frills design shamelessly borrow from Apple’s Magic keyboard—especially when it comes in this white-on-aluminum color scheme—while also improving the feel of the keys. The  Logitech MX Keys S is just as happy running Windows and Mac, but it’s less expensive than the larger Apple version. It also supports Bluetooth and Logitech’s in-house Bolt wireless dongle, which is included in the box. Changing between three devices is simple when using any combination of those connections.

Logitech Smart Actions: What is it?

Except for the fact that custom keys are limited to the top row, Logitech’s Options+ software allows you to personalize almost every aspect of your keyboard. Similar to a game driver, it enables you to quickly assign custom layouts for universal operation and bindings keyed to certain applications like Photoshop or your browser. Several PCs may be easily managed with a single keyboard and mouse thanks to Logitech Flow. But all of it is not novel. Smart Actions are the new keyboard’s main selling feature.
Smart Actions are, essentially, suped-up macros. So for example, I can set up a “start my morning” macro and open Outlook, Slack, my RSS reader, and Chrome with a single button press. It also has integration with deeper system settings. You can also change some system settings or rapidly input text in a classical macro fashion. And all of these functions can be layered on top of one another for some more complex behavior.

Using the MX Keys S to type

The Logitech MX Keys S continue to provide an outstanding typing experience. Similar to a really fine laptop keyboard (right up there with my ThinkPad), Logitech utilizes a combination of a plastic scissor-style bracket and a membrane to give the keys a smooth and deliberate travel with slight give. If you work among people, typing is a great way to be quiet and unobtrusive. Compared to the Apple Magic Keyboard, which is the closest competitor, the keys seem far more comfortable. You won’t get the loud and gratifying “click” of a mechanical board, but if you’re thinking about buying this board right now, you probably don’t want that. Although I wish the keyboard had more height settings (you know what they’re called, Logitech, feet!), the board’s elegantly low profile nevertheless makes a strong visual impression. Look elsewhere if you require a keyboard with additional ergonomic features.

Logitech MX Keys S

Is it wise to get the Logitech MX Keys S?

The Logitech MX Keys S will retail for $109.99 when it first launches. Although it is a lot for a keyboard, it is not too awful for the top-of-the-line Logitech model. Additionally, it is $10 less expensive than the original MX Keys—a discount that is all too rare these days. There is currently no information on a “Mini” version, but I’m confident that one will arrive soon and that, in the coming months, the MX Keys S will be available for a substantial discount. These items are frequently on sale.
Even with its very slight alteration and the new Smart Actions’ restricted usefulness, the Logitech MX Keys design is still incredibly attractive in its new S version. It should be at the top of your list if you’re looking for a slim keyboard that blends functionality and design, especially with a price reduction on top of everything else.
